CONVERSE ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF THE
CHUCK TAYLOR ALL STAR LEATHER JACKET SHOE WITH SCHOTT NYC
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 13, 2011) – Today, Converse Inc. announced the launch of new versions of the limited Chuck Taylor All Star Leather Jacket Shoe with Schott NYC leather.
With deep roots in American style and culture, the Schott NYC jacket and the Chuck Taylor All Star shoe have led somewhat parallel lives. Converse began in 1908 and Schott in 1913 and soon after Chuck Taylor All Star shoes were unveiled they quickly became nearly ubiquitous in American life. Not long before Chuck Taylor added his name to the already then famous All Star shoe, in 1928, Schott unveiled the first motorcycle jacket ever. Named the “Perfecto”, by the 1950s, the jacket had become a symbol of the new rebellion that was taking hold with the burgeoning teen culture that arose after the War.
Referenced in classic film and television— the uniform of the rock and roller, the hoodlum and the rebel often wore a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor All Star shoes and a black Schott Perfecto leather jacket. Likewise, as the punk rock movement swept the streets of downtown New York City and beyond, a Schott leather jacket and a pair of Chucks became synonymous with the scene. Today, both Schott and Converse connect with the American spirit and represent the individualism that both brands have embodied throughout the decades.
A perfect collaboration and combination, Converse takes the original motorcycle jacket and fuses its design with the original Chuck Taylor All Star shoe. The result is a playful yet masculine shoe, with a rugged look that showcases the best of both including heavy-duty rear zip entry, zips under the laces and a patchwork of motorcycle jacket leather. The shoe comes complete with a quilted lining; snaps on the tongue and a leather rand with a clean and sharp emboss detail. The Schott label is sewn discreetly inside the shoe and the classic. Chuck Taylor All Star patch is elegantly embossed in the leather and rests in its familiar inside ankle position.
As a part of Converse First String, Converse’s premium product line that celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity and pure expression, each shoe will be available in limited quantities. Converse first debuted the Chuck Taylor All Star Leather Jacket shoe in 2009 with a black version, followed by a special Converse (PRODUCT)RED version. The new Schott for Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Leather Jacket shoes will be available in unisex sizing on April 15, 2011 for MSRP $150 at select Converse First String retailers including Aloha Rag (New York, NY), Nice Kicks (Austin, TX) and Reed Space (New York, NY).
